What information is needed to select an O-ring?

Most important are the O-ring or groove dimensions, the working medium, temperature, pressure and whether the seal operates statically or dynamically.

How does NBR differ from FKM when selecting an O-ring?

NBR is a good choice for many standard oil and pneumatic systems. FKM is used for higher temperatures, fuels, oils and more aggressive chemical media.

Can an O-ring be selected based on a worn part?

Yes. In many cases a photo, measurement of the inner diameter and cross-section or sending a sample is sufficient. For heavily worn parts it's also useful to provide the groove dimensions.

Are O-rings suitable for dynamic operation?

Yes, but they require correct selection of material, hardness, cross-section and installation conditions. O-rings are selected differently for static use than for reciprocating or rotary motion.
