When to use EPDM and when FKM in the food industry?

EPDM often performs well with water, steam, glycols and many cleaning agents. FKM should be considered for fats, oils, higher temperatures or media with which EPDM does not perform properly.

Does CIP/SIP affect seal selection?

Yes. Temperature, cleaning agent concentration, contact time and CIP/SIP cycle frequency strongly influence material selection and seal durability.

Is every silicone seal suitable for food contact?

No. Suitability depends on the specific compound, material documentation and operating conditions. Therefore the medium, temperature and process requirements must be defined before selection.
